If the weather permits and that might be a very big IF then there is a mouth watering top of the table clash scheduled for The Riverside on Saturday afternoon.
Second placed Seaham Red Star visit fourth placed Park View AFC for the very first time with both teams in really good form in the League. However, neither have played since recording significant victories on Boxing Day.
Red Star's fine 3 - 1 home win over FC Hartlepool enabled them to leapfrog the Teesside outfit and move back to that second place. Whilst Park View's 1 - 0 win on 'The Moor' in the Derby against Town kept them in the play-off race.
Seaham have played 27 games have 16 wins 6 draws and 5 losses scoring 52 times and conceding 23 for 54 points gained. That’s one game more than PV have played and they have one more point. It shows just how important Saturday’s game is.
Goals wise Red Star's leading marksman in the league is Ryan Appleby who has netted 13 times whilst Matthew Weirs has 9 goals. But they do share the responsibility and load when it come to their goal output.
They have also just signed Benji Shodeinde the ex-Park View (Chester-le-Street United) striker who was the top scorer for the Club in their inaugural Northern League Division 2 season.
Back at the end of August the two sides met down on the Durham coast in the first ever encounter between the sides in league action. The game finished in a hard-fought 0 – 0 draw although Chris Luaba did miss a first-half penalty for the hosts.
Park View's form at the moment is spectacular. Seven wins in a row in the league including three away from home since we were last at The Riverside. At Sunderland RCA 2 – 0, Sunderland West End 7 – 0 and of course that 1 – 0 Derby result.
Three more clean sheets as well meaning they have the meanest defence currently in the Division having only conceded 19 all season. Top of the form table as well and means they have 53 points from 26 games.
Stephen Siyanbola continues to lead PV with 9 goals in the League and Charlie Loveday has 7 but like their opponents on Saturday they have many options when it comes to breaking down defences.
Kick-Off at The Riverside if the game survives will be at 3:00pm.
