Winless Run Goes On For Ten-Men Park View

Difficult times for Park View AFC continued on Saturday with a third consecutive defeat in all competitions, games where they have conceded three goals in each of them. They have now gone seven games without a win.

Jarrow in contrast continued their fantastic start to the campaign with a sixth win in nine league games. Combined with their three draws they remain unbeaten and are the Division's top scorers with 26 goals in those nine games.

It has been a tough week for the youngsters of Park View. Going out of the FA Vase last weekend to a very experienced Knaresborough Town side on the road then losing at league leading Boldon CA on Tuesday.

The hope for home comforts on Saturday not realised as Jarrow continue their title march and sit third in the table. Park View slipping to 13th a trend they need to address quickly and look to get back to winning ways.

Team news before the game was positive with the return to the starting XI of influential forward Charlie Loveday who came in for Lewis Marshall. Marshall dropping to the bench in the only change to Tuesday's loss at Boldon.

There was a place on the bench for newly registered Andre Clayton an international student from Thailand that has impressed in training. A big moment for the youngster after taking the decision to come to the UK.

The midweek range had certainly improved the pitch situation and Park View looked to be enjoying the conditions as they made a bright start to the game. They were however denied a real golden opportunity early on.

On 4 minutes Loveday played a superb ball through the Jarrow defence for Niall Armstrong to sprint away on goal. Armstrong looked as if he had timed his run perfectly but he was denied a one-on-one chance by the Assistant's raised flag.

Loveday was already showing how much PV had missed him through injury and created a lovely move moments later. Cutting in from the left after Reyhan Grimaud's long diagonal ball searched him out he found Brandon Young.

Young played a delightful first-time ball to Jacob Mallinson who sped into the box looking to create but his dangerous cross was cleared for a corner by Ewan Simpson. Carter Bell delivering an in-swinging corner into the six-yard box.

The ball was headed only half clear and fell to Armstrong about 14-yards out. He hit a firm right-foot effort that was well blocked by the solid Jarrow defence.

Ryan Hardie almost created the first opportunity for the visitors. He was involved in a foot race with Grimaud down the left. The PV defender looking as if he had won the tussle and allowed the ball to run out.

But Hardie did well to stop it and then fire low to the near post where Park View keeper Davy Carter got down well to collect and snuff out any possible danger.

Midway through a well contested half where Park View had the upper hand on possession but where Jarrow were always looking dangerous the PV front three combined well.

Zac Boddy and Loveday combining well to set up Armstrong just outside the box. Armstrong though could not get power not direction into his effort and Kieran Hunter in the Jarrow goal watched the shot go wide.

Stephen Siyanbola returning to The Riverside and the team that gave him the chance in the Northern League was next to try and get Jarrow going. His determined run down the right took him past and inside Bell.

From the edge of the box he lined up a shot that was well-struck but deflected off Alex Clark and spun safely into Carter's hands who held the effort easily. It did though seem to spark a little life into the vistor's who began to get on top.

A free kick won on the left by Jarrow 40-yards from goal was swung into the PV box by Sean McRoberts. His delivery found his skipper Lutfur Karim who got a header on target but it lacked power and it was an easy save for Carter.

Then from a McRoberts corner Hardie got in at the back post but could only steer his header wide. Next up was Luca Nelson from just inside the box drilling a low shot that saw Carter dive full-length to his left to turn away well.

Siyanbola crossed from the right and Jamie Frizzel got up to head away but only to the edge of the box. The ball hit full-on the volley by Nelson but well over the top. But Jarrow were threatening and on 38 minutes went in front.

Ben Gallagher was adjudged to have fouled McRoberts about 35-yards from goal. McRoberts played a clever quick free-kick into the box catching the Park View defence out.

The ball finding Hardie with his back to goal but he turned really well and from about 12-yards out shot low into the bottom corner of the net past Carter's diving effort to keep it out. A blow for PV and worse was to follow a minute later.

A ball was played over the top that saw Boddy and Jack Armstrong clash. Boddy bringing the Jarrow full-back crashing to the ground and provoking an angry reaction from the visiting players.

The referee adjudged perhaps harshly that Boddy had led with his elbow and that intent was there and contact was made. The result was a red card for Boddy and PV already a goal down now also a man down.

Jarrow now in the ascendency finished the half strongly. Karim finding Armstrong out wide on the right who delivered a good cross to the back post. McRoberts getting on the end of it but foiled by Carter's good low save.

The last meaningful attack of the half perhaps should have seen Jarrow double their lead. Siyanbola doing well on the right and then slipping a great ball through the PV defence for Nelson to run onto.

Nelson was about 10-yards out and although at an angle only had Carter to beat but he pulled his cross-shot past both Carter and the far post from an excellent position.

The referee's whistle brought an end to the first 45 minutes that had started brightly for Park View but ended badly. Jarrow taking the chance to put them in front and starting to look like the unbeaten side they are.

Plenty for Park View to contemplate as the second half opened. They made the first insurgention when Bell drove down the left before playing Gallagher into the box. The PV skipper getting to the by-line.

Gallagher's pull-back was aimed towards the middle where his teammates were closing in but Max Nelson was alert to the danger first to the ball and made a crucial block and then clearance.

Park View were trying to overcome their disadvantage and reform but were finding it tough against a very solid well organised Jarrow side that were strong defensively and carried a threat going forward.

However when they doubled their lead on 56 minutes they were given a helping hand by Park View and in particular keeper Carter. Nelson taking a quick free-kick on halfway pushing the ball out right to Armstrong.

His long diagonal cross looked an easy one for Carter to claim as the PV keeper called to his defenders. But then inexplicably and perhaps believing the ball was going dead Carter allowed it to go over his head.

Unfortunately for him and his team Hardie realised the ball was not going dead and swooped in unmarked at the back post to head into an empty net to double his personal and his side's tally.

If that goal did not kill the game then six minutes later a third for Jarrow did. Another set-piece conceded when Mallinson was booked for tripping the advancing Simpson out wide left.

McRoberts delivered right into the heart of the Park View box. Hardie in between the penalty spot and six-yard line rose the highest and virtually unchallenged glanced his header into the top corner of the net.

A hat-trick goal and also his side's third putting more than clear daylight between the two sides. Park View will no doubt look at the defending but from Jarrow's point of view it was a well-taken goal.

Despite the score line Park View kept trying to go forward and look for something out of the game. Gallagher making a good burst into the box on the right-hand side.

PV's captain's pull back was a good one to Armstrong who was able to turn well and get his shot away but once again the Jarrow defence stood strong and Simpson made a good block.

Three goals to the good Jarrow began making changes bringing on four substitutes with still over 15 minutes to play. Park View's only response initially being a senior debut for Clayton on Armstrong on 73 minutes.

The substitute having an immediate impact within a minute of coming on. He helped Park View to setup a lovely move that ended in them getting a great goal and giving them a mere chink of light in the game.

Clayton starting the move from the right with good control and then finding Loveday with a neat pass. Loveday attacked the heart of the Jarrow defence and brought Young into play on the edge of the box and continuing his run.

Young's return pass was exquisite and through the Jarrow defence and Loveday did not break stride before sliding the ball from about 8-yards out under the diving Hunter. A lovely goal indeed.

But Jarrow were in no mood to allow Park View back into the contest and in truth should have extended their lead inside the last ten minutes. Nelson on two occasions being charitable to the home side.

Firstly substitute Michael Enwere played the Jarrow No. 9 clean through on goal but like in in the first half from an excellent position his cross-shot beat both Carter and the far post as it fizzed wide.

Then Enwere and fellow substitute Evan Whittle combined well to give Nelson another good shooting opportunity just inside the Park View box. This time the striker blazed well over when well placed.

Park View's last act of defiance before the referee's whistle sounded for the last time was a Mallinson 25-yard effort that was well-hit but straight at Hunter who gathered the shot in easily.

So, a tough week for Park View ended in a third consecutive defeat. They did at times play some good football but they were also sloppy in possession at times and did not defend any of the Jarrow goals very well.

They need to regroup quickly and look to reverse what is a worrying trend. For the visitor's Jarrow it was in the end a well deserved result. They perhaps got the rub of the green at times but were clinical when it mattered and march on.
