Ebac Northern League Division 2 - Saturday 12th September 2026 Park View AFC 2 v 1 Seaham Red Star

It's four points from six against the Durham coastline side for Park View after a terrific opening to the second 45 minutes saw them turn the game on it's head after the home side went into the half-time break trailing.

After a tough 1 - 1 draw at The Alexander Steakhouse Stadium early in August both sides expected a tough tight tussle and thus it proved on a lovely afternoon for football on Park View's excellent home surface.

The PV Management Team made only one change from the side that had thumped Sunderland West End 6 - 0 in midweek to progress in the Durham County FA Challenge Cup. Ollie Taylor coming in for Kieran Woods.

It meant a tactical switch with Taylor going to right wing back and Bobby Gough moving into a more central attacking midfield role between the two strikers. Woods meanwhile dropping to the bench after starting in midweek.

Seaham who came into the game on the back of three consecutive league defeats actually made the brighter start to the game almost opening Park View up with a decent attack inside 3 minutes.

Lovely play in the centre of the pitch by Reece Blakely saw him play a great ball out wide left to Jack Leonard who sent a deep cross to the back post trying to pick out Mason Hardy who looked to be free.

But Jacob Mallinson did really well under pressure to make a brave clearing header to concede a corner. Jack Thynne swung the kick in and although Blakely almost retrieved the ball the PV defence were alert and cleared the ball.

McLellan Lines the Red Star skipper conceded a free-kick 25-yards from goal for a foul on Charlie Loveday who had controlled a driven Markus Geifalk forward paas. His opposite number Ben Gallagher floated the kick into the box.

Nathan Conroy doing well to control the ball and then win a corner off Lines. Mallinson delivered and Jamie Frizzel did well at the back post to head the ball dangerously across the face of goal. Geifalk just failed to get on the end of it.

Reyhan Grimaud then fouled Leonard 25-yards from goal and Lines tried his luck from the distance. His effort going over the wall and was on target but Davy Carter dived low to his right to make an expected comfortable save.

Taylor on the right showed good vision to find Conroy with an inside pass. The PV centre forward turning well on the edge of the box to make room for a left foot shot that lacked power and Seaham keeper Sean Newbrook took easily.

Then Park View almost got in on goal with a neat incisive move. Alex Clark drilling a lovely low pass from the back to find the feet of Conroy. His control was excellent as he slid a lovely through ball that almost freed Loveday.

PV's speedy top scorer just denied a clear run on goal by a superb last-ditch sliding intervention from Thomas Brugge who was very much the last man and who timed his challenge magnificently.

Geifalk then found Mallinson in space on the left with a probing pass. The left-sided wide man jinking inside on to his right foot before rifling in a low effort from just outside the box that flew through on target.

However Newbrook had the shot covered as he dived to his right and pushed the goal bound ball around the post rather than take the chance of trying to clutch it. Corner to Park View which was well cleared by Dan Wilds.

Grimaud then played another good ball from the back to find the twinkling feet of Loveday who controlled the ball beautifully and then send Taylor away and past the Seaham rearguard on the right.

Taylor made ground but Wilds did well to recover back and as Taylor crossed got in an interception to concede a corner. Mallinson delivered into the heart of the visiting box but again Seaham's defence stood strong and cleared the danger.

Gough set-up the next opportunity with a neat ball wide left to his marauding skipper Gallagher who did well to find Conroy inside. Conroy in turn squared to Loveday who laid the ball back to Geifalk but his 22-yard effort flew well over.

At the other end it was Blakely who did well to create a shooting chance for Hardy on the edge of the box but his left foot curler was too high to trouble Carter in the Park View goal.

Then an unfortunate incident put Park View at a one-man disadvantage for ten minutes. Frizzel looked to be fouled by Leo Kirkbride as he attempted to clear his lines on the left but the referee allowed play to go on.

Kirkbride though losing possession but as the ball went out of play the referee felt Frizzel's protests were unlawful and dismissed him to the 'sin-bin' for 10 minutes. It meant a re-shuffle for Park View as they looked to readjust.

Unfortunately halfway through the ten-man period they did concede the opening goal on 24 minutes. Seaham taking advantage of Park View's lack of numbers and organisation to cut through the midfield.

Johnny Toward playing the killer pass through the PV defence that saw Blakely stride on to confidently and hit a left-foot cross shot past Carter's diving left-hand that nestled into the corner of the net.

Despite going behind Park View were unbowed although Gallagher's 25-yard free-kick effort after Conroy was fouled was more akin to a rugby conversion than an effort at a football goal.

Restored to eleven men Park View should perhaps have been level on 33 minutes. Another free kick conceded by Seaham saw Mallinson whip a great delivery into the Red Star six-yard box.

Frizzel back on the field stole in front of the visiting defence but from very close range completely miscued his effort and the ball sliced away to safety much to Seaham's relief.

A lovely move afforded Park View another chance they did not take. Mallinson putting a ball into Loveday who made a good run through the inside left channel before finding Taylor on the other side of the box.

Taylor cushioned a neat short pass into Conroy's feet and the striker turned away well from his marker but with a good clear shooting opportunity mishit his left foot shot that went well wide.

After being under pressure since they took the lead Seaham did end the half the stronger and almost doubled their advantage on a couple of occasions. Firstly Thynne's diagonal ball was headed across the PV area by Hardy.

Kai Charlton throwing himself full length at the ball just failed to make what may well have been a very telling headed connection from about 8-yards out with the goal at his mercy.

Then right on half-time Park View were indebted to keeper Carter for allowing them to go into the dressing rooms only trailing by a single goal. A long throw from Thynne causing problems and falling at the back post to Hardy.

He put in an acrobatic overhead kick effort that looked a goal all the way. But Carter showed brilliant reflex action to dive full length to his left and tip the ball onto the post seeing it bounce behind for a corner.

However there was no time to take the kick as the referee blew for half-time as Seaham went to organise the corner. An even half in many ways but Red Star with the slender advantage.

Within 90 seconds of the restart all that changed as Park View defiantly drew level. It was Frizzel the man that converted the equalising goal in a carbon copy of the chance he had missed in the first half.

Gough was fouled about 20-yards out level with the 18-yard outline. Mallinson delivered into the six-yard area and Frizzel timed his run perfectly. Choosing to neither head or attempt to get his foot to the ball his momentum did the trick.

Running across Newbrook the Park View centre back merely allowed the ball to bounce off his chest into the empty net to atone for his missed chance late in the first 45 minutes.

The goal buoyed PV who were very much on the front foot in the aftermath. Gallagher almost getting in when Mallinson's 20-yard was deflected into his path. He advanced into the box.

Taking control he smashed a fierce angled 8-yard drive on target but saw Newbrook well positioned with strong wrists parrying the ball up and then grabbing the rebound as it dropped down.

Park View made two substitutions on 57 minutes with Carter Bell coming on for Taylor and Brandon Young for Gough as they continued to press and push Seaham back.

On 59 minutes they got their rewards with a fantastic second goal. Brandon Young doing well to win a ball in midfield and then find Conroy on the half-way line who controlled the ball well.

Conroy then turned sharply and thread a superb defence splitting pass through the middle of the Seaham defence to find Loveday streaking away from two markers and through one-on-one with only Newbrook to beat.

And beat Newbrook he emphatically did. As the keeper came from his line Loveday showed great composure as he entered the box and then smashed his effort beyond the helpless keeper and into the roof of the net.

A great turnaround which initiated a big response from Seaham who pressed hard and pushed for an equaliser. Lines playing a free kick into Blakely who turned well inside the box but was thwarted by a great block by Bell.

Pressure was building but Park View were standing firm and defending bravely. Brandon Young doing his defensive work well blocking a Hardy effort on the edge of the box.

Then Toward swung in a free kick from the left dangerously with the ball evading every one sailing over Carter but thankfully for Park View it also drifted wide of the far post.

PV though almost snatched a third of the afternoon with another terrific move. Conroy playing a delightful diagonal long ball from the left to find the free running Loveday once again causing Red Star problems.

This time Loveday darted past a couple of defenders to the byline and then cut the ball dangerously into the middle. The late arriving Brandon Young getting on the end of it and firing it inches over the bar from about 10-yards out.

Conroy after a great shift up front was replaced by Woods for the last 15 minutes as Seaham continued to press and Park View continued to hit them on the counter attack.

Brandon Young's long ball into space again giving Loveday a sight of the Seaham goal. This time PV's top scorer took on the shot early from just inside the box. Newbrook diving to his right to make a smart low save.

On 82 minutes brilliant play down the left saw Woods release Gallagher who got into the box crossing low to find Loveday who laid the ball back to Mallinson who struck a great first time effort that was brilliantly blocked by Wilds.

Frankie Young was Park View's last substitute coming on to help his side shore up their midfield for Geifalk and retain their solid committed defence that was being led by the excellent Frizzel and Clark.

The job was almost completed with the Park View pressing gave them one final chance in injury time. Red Star substitute Alfie Fawcett trying to find a colleague on halfway actually playing Loveday away through the middle.

One on one with Newbrook again perhaps a little fatigue in the forward's legs set in as he tried to chip the advancing keeper and only succeeded in giving him a relatively easy catch.

it was not a costly miss though as the referee's whistle went for full-time to signal an excellent hard-earned battling win for Park View that lifted them to 8th place in the table.

They had done really well in playing good possession football and then coming back with real character after the blow of going one down. After getting in front they showed real steel and commitment to doggedly hang on to their lead.

Three great points and they will go again and again at home this Wednesday when Grangetown Boys Club are the latest visitors to The Riverside for a 7:30pm kick-off. Park View looking to build on two successive wins.
