Ebac Northern League Division 2 - Friday 31st October 2025 Park View AFC 2 v 1 AFC Newbiggin

A spooktacular performance from Park View warded off any scares that AFC Newbiggin threatened to impart and give them a second win in 48 hours. It also completed a league double over the NL newcomers from Northumberland.

PV had seen off Billingham Town 1 - 0 two days preview and returned to action in fine style to make it 2 home wins in a row. Six points that sees them rise to sixth in the table level on points with Chester-le-Street Town.

With Town having played two games more a single point from either of the two games in hand will lift Park View back into the playoff positions as they continue to look upwards at the league standings.

Given that this was a quick turnaround the PC coaching staff may have been tempted to rest a player or two. In the end they resisted that temptation but regular no. 1 James Hughes returned from injury to replace the suspended George Havelock.

These two sides had met at Newbiggin back on the opening day of the season in July when a late Nathan Conroy winner had given PV a 2 - 1 win. So perhaps 'The Biggin' will be glad to see the back of Park View for this campaign.

Nothing really happened of note in the early exchanges as both teams battled for supremacy. The opening goal of the game coming on 9 minutes from the first real effort at goal. It came the way of Park View on a great counter attack.

Newbiggin had a free kick inside the PV half on the right which was taken by Daniel Costello. With his left foot he swung a ball in to the home box where Dylan Robson made a great clearing header. The ball falling to Jacob Mallinson.

Mallinson set off at speed down the right and then spotting Charlie Loveday's run through the middle played a superb reverse ball into the speedy forward's feet. Loveday was away and closing in on goal.

He reached the edge of the box and fired in a low right foot shot that Jed Scott in the Biggin goal did well to keep out with his feet. The ball coming back to Loveday who held it up and then released Mallinson on the right.

Mallinson's ball into the six-yard box was a beauty and saw Stephen Siyanbola get in between defenders to be first to the invitation. He accepted it with aplomb flicking it home first time past the helpless Scott.

A great start by Park View who buoyed by the goal were on top and the better team. Newbiggin not really getting into their stride or creating anything. Ten minutes after the first goal Park View doubled their lead.

Reyhan Grimaud playing a neat ball wide right to Mallinson who won a throw-in off Jack Livingstone as he attempted to round him. The perfect position for a Robson long throw bomb and so it proved.

The throw to the near post saw Alex Clark flick it on to the back post where Brandon Young on Halloween night ghosted in behind to head it home from only six-yards out.

Siyanbola competing with Brendan Balmbra on the goal line wheeled away in celebration claiming the last touch but the goals was correctly credited to Young. Perhaps though Siyanbola's presence prevented Balmbra from clearing.

The visitors with a mountain to climb were stung into action. A Cameron Elliott free kick was floated deep into the Park View box. Livingstone met it on the half-volley and Bradley Higgins instinctively flicked goal wards from close range.

The effort was on target but James Hughes made a superb reflex save. The ball falling inside the six-yard box where Siyanbola tried to hack it clear but didn't get a great connection on it.

Livingstone retrieved close-in and chipped it just too high for the unmarked Higgins with the ball going over him and narrowly wide of the far post.

Clark then fouled Higgins 30-yards from goal and needed extensive treatment for his pains. Elliott delivered the free kick to the back post where Livingstone climbed and got a good header on target but Hughes again made an excellent reflex save to keep it out.

Clark was clearing in too much pain to carry on and was replaced by Brad Hughes with Grimaud moving to centre back and Ben Gallagher dropping back from midfield to slot in at right back.

Park View had been pushed back a bit but still looked lively on the break and well drilled in defence. Skipper Dylan Wilkinson with a play to prove both points. He stepped in to make a good interception in the back line.

Wilkinson then played a great ball over Balmbra to once again release Loveday in space and away on goal. Balmbra doing well though to recover and block Loveday and the ball went out for a throw-in in Robson's range.

The midfielder launched another long range bomb where this time Jamie Frizzel flicked it on. Siyanbola getting there to knee the ball on target but he was thwarted by Scott's flying save.

Shortly after this AFC Newbiggin Manager Simon Wilson was dismissed from his technical area by the referee with a straight red card presumably for dissent. However with him missing his side pulled a goal back on 38 minutes.

Cody Short took a long throw-in finding Harvey Hills inside the box and as he turned Robson the PV man looked to have his arms around him and pull him down. Hills getting a shot in which went wide as he tumbled to the ground.

The referee in a great position deemed that Robson's interference had caused the Newbiggin Captain to go down and not get a clean strike pointing to the spot for the penalty.

Elliott stepped up for the kick and drove his shot low and true into the bottom corner of the net past the diving right hand of Hughes to give his side a lifeline.

Park View were still on top having more of the possession but Newbiggin were not allowing them any clear sights of goal and as half-time approached looked dangerous on the break themselves.

From a Robson long throw Livingstone got to the ball first and swept it away down the left to give Elliott a run on goal. The Newbiggin scorer showing good control and pace to turn one way past Grimaud and then other past Gallagher.

His run taking him into the box where he fired in a fierce left foot shoot from an angle about 12-yards out that Hughes was well placed to parry away in fine style and keep his side in front at the half-time whistle.

Park View opened the second half well without creating at first until they constructed a neat move down the right instigated by Gallagher. He found substitute Sam Beattie who had come on for the injured Grimaud.

Beattie in turn found Mallinson on the right wing who created space to fire in a low cross to the near post where Balmbra did well to get in front of the predatory Siyanbola but he could only get the ball to the edge of the box.

It fell to Beattie who's shot was blocked by Livingstone. Beattie's introduction had seen another reshuffle for PV. Robson dropping into the centre of the defence with Mallinson moving inside and Beattie on to the right side.

The reshuffle didn't slow Park View down and they restored their two-goal lead on 62 minutes after Siyanbola was fouled wide on the left. Brad Hughes delivered the free kick and Frizzel nodded it down inside the six-yard box.

Siyanbola connecting with an instant half-volley that was brilliantly stopped by Scott but as the ball spun off him and into the air the big PV centre forward got to it first and from 3-yards headed it in to the empty net.

Newbiggin were dealt another blow after Young won a corner off Ben Middleton. A conversation ensued between the referee and Hills which saw the Biggin skipper given 10-minutes in the sin bin for dissent.

From the corner it was almost a fourth for PV and almost a carbon copy of their third. Mallinson's corner met by Frizzel who again nodded the ball into the six-yard box aiming for Siyanbola.

This time though before the striker could get a potential hat-trick effort in Livingstone got their first and blocked him before scrambling the ball to safety.

Gallagher was then alert to pick up a poor goal kick from Scott and drive into the visitors box. He looked up and found Loveday in the inside left challenge. The PV forward cutting in and drawing an excellent parry from Scott.

The ball rolled away for a corner which Loveday played short to Young and took a return ball before crossing dangerously where the Newbiggin defence conceded another corner.

This time Mallinson went long but the visiting defence held firm and cleared their lines. It was testament to PV's attitude that they weren't sitting back on their lead and indeed were going looking for more.

A brilliant move almost brought them exactly that. Brad Hughes playing a ball forward to Beattie who held it up well and then found Gallagher supporting from right back. Gallagher playing a first time pass into Mallinson's feet.

Mallinson played an inside pass to Brad Hughes and darted into the box. Hughes picking him out with an excellent first time sliding pass. Mallinson took aim and hit a great 16-yard angled drive that went inches wide of the far post.

Newbiggin were still in the game and reminded their hosts of that when Short collected Livingstone's throw-in and delivered dangerously deep to the back post. Substitute Jacob Douglas met it full on the volley from 8-yards.

The ball flying past James Hughes who was beaten all ends up but was relieved to see the ball flash inches over his cross bar. But it was a fleeting moment and again Park View went forward.

Young winning a tackle in midfield and nipping the ball to substitute Conroy who had come on for Mallinson. His first time long pass was superb and sent Loveday flying away on the left.

Loveday going towards the byline and pulled the ball back just behind the breaking Young who on the stretch managed to divert it to Beattie. Beattie on the follow-up hit a left foot shot that went past Scott.

However Livingstone was alert to the danger and covering around behind his goalkeeper was able to block the ball easily and prevent his side from going further behind.

Then Douglas played a great ball over the top of the PV defence that Aaron Zamor race onto and into the Park View area. But just as he was about to pull the trigger Robson got back superbly to block and clear the danger.

The last action of a good entertaining 90 minutes and in particular a very good second half saw Loveday create one last chance when his ball from the left found Conroy who controlled it but from just outside the box lifted the ball over.

The referee's whistle went shortly afterwards signalling the move up the table for Park View after a second excellent home win in two days. Newbiggin had showed plenty of endavour and commitment but it was not enough on a night when PV had the more clinical finishes and well drilled all-round performance.
