Park View Overcome Adversity To March On Upwards

Ebac Northern League Division 2 - Wednesday 16th September 2026 Park View AFC 3 v 0 Grangetown Boys Club
As superb night's work and very solid 'professional' performance saw Park View comfortably take all three points and move into a play-off place. They have played more games than those around them but they have the points on board.
It was also a second successive home win in the League and the first time they have won three games in a row this season when you add in the Durham County FA Challenge Cup win over Sunderland West End.
A win achieved despite having to play an hour of the game without Jamie Frizzel. The PV centre back being sent off for a first half challenge on Max Corner. But Park View already a goal up at that time shrugged off the setback.
Ollie Taylor and Bobby Gough dropped to the bench from Saturday's win over Seaham Red Star and were replaced in the starting XI by Carter Bell and Brandon Young.
Goalkeeper Davy Carter was unavailable so Park View give a debut to 16-year-old Trystan Hounsell whom they signed from Middlesbrough FC on an intial Works Experience Loan for a month. The fifth keeper Park View have used this season.
Hounsell a member of 'Boro's under-18 squad as well as part of the Welsh National Under-18 squad impressed in pre-season against Park View and the Management Team were pleased to be able to bring him to The Riverside.
The game got off to a sensational start and a positive one for Park View as the returning Young put them in front inside 3 minutes. Jacob Mallinson finding Nathan Conroy in space who in turn gave the ball to Charlie Loveday.
Conroy continued his run into the box and Loveday slid a nice pass into the striker's feet. Conroy holding off Matthew Robinson before firing past George Briggs in the Grangetown goal only to see the ball cannon back of the post.
But Young doing what all good midfielders do was following up well and was able to adjust his body to guide the rebound into the empty net and give his side an early advantage.
Hounsell was called into action almost immediately afterwards as Grangetown looked to respond. Alex Bruton hitting a good on-target 22-yarder that Hounsell had to dive to his left at full stretch to turn away in fine style.
An excellent Park View move almost opened the opportunity for a second goal. Young finding Mallinson in midfield who played a great ball out wide right to release Loveday who sped away from the defenders down the flank.
Loveday's low right wing cross was really well delivered and fizzed across the six-yard box but there was no Park View player in place to get on the end of a gilt-edged chance.
'Boysie' responded with a neat move involving captain Kieran Stares and Jake Wiiliams-Muthana. Williams-Muthana holding the ball up well and laying it off to Corner who from the edge of the box curled a left-footer just over the bar.
Mallinson was showing up very well for PV and he did well to twist and turn and get inside the box before finding Conroy who had his back to goal on the six-yard line.
Conroy turning neatly before firing in a goal bound effort that brought an instinctive reflex save from Briggs who kept the shot out with his feet.
Then Bruton did well on the left hand side in attack before finding Williams-Muthana who squared to Robinson in space about 22-yards out but the left back's smashed effort was well wide.
A blow for Grangetown came on 23 minutes when skipper Stares was forced to leave the game limping heavily. He had looked lively up front for his side but had to be replaced by Owen Hayton.
Boysie were though perhaps on top at this stage and pushing Park View back. Bruton looking a danger and was a little unlucky when his shot from outside the box took a deflection off Alex Clark and bounced wide.
The corner amounting to nothing but Boysie were given a boost on the half hour mark when Frizzel received his straight red card for a dangerous looking tackle on Corner which infuriated the Grangetown players.
Corner was actually on his feet very quickly and moved away but the Grangetown players certainly seemed to want to mix things up in the aftermath. The referee though only showing Frizzel a card once he returned to his feet.
PV looked to reorganise and did so effectively plus they got a great boost of a second goal a little against the run of play on 36 minutes. A great ball by Young putting Mallinson away on the right.
The midfielder showing great close control and pace to create space for a crossing opportunity and what a ball he delivered low to the back post with Loveday looking to get on the end of it.
Oliver Pukrin though inside the six-yard box got to the ball first but under pressure only succeeded in turning the ball into his own net to double Park View's lead and give them a real platform to hold on too.
Indeed PV almost made it three not long after. Another brilliant forward run from Mallinson taking him into space before he was able to find Reyhan Grimaud on the overlap.
Grimaud's cross was pin-point and picked out Conroy in the box whose downward 8-yard header saw Briggs plunge low to his right and keep out with his outstretched hand.
A booking for Alex Tweddle was received as he sycthed down Loveday in midfield as the speedy forward looked about to set-up another dangerous Park View breakaway.
Boysie though reminded their hosts that they were still around and in the game forcing a corner on the Park View left. It was swung in dangerously but headed clear by Clark.
Bruton picking up the loose ball and giving it to Corner who crossed deep to the back post where Williams-Muthana stole in to get a header on target but Hounsell was well placed to beat the effort away.
Park View had the last say of the first 45 minutes and Grangetown were indebted to Briggs for just about keeping them in the game. Mallinson again producing wonderful creative midfield play to send Loveday through on goal.
Loveday though was thwarted and denied by Briggs who came smartly off his line to make a fine crucial block and enable his side to still be in the game at half-time.
However within a minute of the restart Park View did make it 3 - 0 and Loveday did get his goal. Unsurprisingly it was Mallinson the provider with an excellent through ball that was placed superbly.
Loveday timing his run so well to beat the offside flag race into the box expertly dribble around Briggs and then place the ball into the waiting net. Loveday's 7th league goal of the season and his 9th in all competitions.
Surely even with ten-men it was game over as even with the advantage is seemed a long way back for a Grangetown side that had been neat and tidy without really carrying a goal threat.
Park View remaining in control and covering for each other right across the pitch as all players put in a selfless determined committed performance showing how much they belong at this level.
Mallinson with another driving run was upended just outside the box level with the apex of the 18-yard box. A perfect angle for the left-footed Bell who went for goal and was only a fraction too high.
Then it was Loveday's turn to attack the Boysie defence and get fouled about 22-yards out in a central position. Conroy stepped up but his free kick only hit the defensive wall before rebounding back to Mallinson.
The all-action midfielder making room for a shot that he hit well and on target only to see the goal bound effort take a deflection off Tweddle and go inches wide of the post.
Boysie began to launch more attacks forward as Park View settled well into a 4-4-1 set-up that enabled them to deal with most of what the visitors had to throw at them.
Brunton did produce a good left wing cross that saw Hayton get on the end of as he tried to bundle the ball past Hounsell but the young keeper was well positioned to make an easy save.
He was though beaten not long after when a tricky ball into his near post saw Hounsell come and punch the ball straight at Hayton. The ball rebounding off the substitute forward into the net.
However the effort was immediately chalked off by the well-placed referee who indicated that the ball had come off Hayton's arm which caused it to beat Hounsell and go into the net.
Boysie's best chance of a consolation or even a way back into the game came on 75 minutes. Again Bruton who had been the visitors best player was the creator with a low cross that reached Lennon Worton at the back post.
Worton on debut and with the goal at his mercy snatched at the chance though miskicking horribly and seeing the ball slide off his foot and go behind to maintain Hounsell and Park View's clean sheet.
A pelthora of substitutions from both side's slowed the game down as Park View looked to see out the game. Grangetown were throwing balls forward into the box but the PV defence well marshalled by Clark stood firm.
Tweddle did come forward a couple of times and try shots from distance but they were well over the bar with Hounsell not troubled. As time ticked down Loveday was denied once again late on.
Substitute Taylor doing well on the right to set-up PV's top scorer who hit a lovely first time shot that brought the best out of Briggs who dived low to his left to keep the ball out in fine style.
The last action of a very satisfying and solid performance from Park View. Given that they had played over 60 minutes with only ten-men they did really well to restrict Grangetown and offer them little in the way of attacking options.
Boysie will no doubt have better days but this was not one of them. Park View doing a great job in the end and deserving the points once they adapted to being a man down. Solid in defence and midfield and a threat up front.
