Late Goal Denies Park View A Deserved Point

Ebac Northern League Division 2 - Saturday 7th March 2026 Park View AFC 1 v 2 Yarm & Eaglescliffe

A disappointing afternoon for Park View as their performance certainly did not deserve them leaving the game empty handed. Over the 90 minutes they were the better team and created more chances but were not clinical enough.

Yarm & Eaglescliffe on the other hand scored two goals with their only two shots on target. Clinical efficiency it could be said. Given the respective league positions it was an afternoon that benefitted the visitors more for sure.

Going into the game Y&E were in superb form. Four wins in a row, unbeaten in six. Park View who had two wins, a draw and three defeats in their last six knew it was going to be tough to get a result to keep them in the playoff positions.

Yarm are a tough well-organised experienced competitively physical side that went very close to promotion last season and look almost certain to be in the playoffs again this. It was a daunting challenge for Park View.

With Reyhan Grimaud suspended now for four matches Park View were forced into one change from the side that had drawn 0 - 0 at Alnwick in midweek. Fit again Ben Gallagher coming back into the starting XI at right back.

The game kicked off with the sun shining and Park View making the brighter start. Indeed they were handed a glorious opportunity with only three minutes on the clock to take the lead from the penalty spot.

Stephen Siyanbola with good control and a neat lay-off to Jacob Mallinson on the right went sprinting into the box looking for the return ball. Mallinson delivered but Siyanbola was unable to get to the cross.

The reason being he was manhandled and held by visiting skipper Cam Wild. The referee had no hesitation in awarding Park View their first penalty from open play this season. Wild receiving a yellow card for his infringement.

Siyanbola claimed the ball to take the spot kick although he had to wait almost two minutes to take it following lengthy protests from Yarm and in particular goalkeeper Callum Roberts and Daniel Jones.

When Siyanbola eventually got the whistle to take the penalty he went to Roberts' right with his left foot kick. Roberts though dived and got his right hand to the ball and pushed it on to the post with his defence clearing.

A golden chance spurned but Park View did not let it affect them as they pushed and probed pressing Yarm back at every opportunity. But the visiting defence coped well with the attempts from PV to create chances.

Then when Brandon Young fouled Jones on the right to concede a free kick Harry Stewart-Titchiner delivered to the back post where Jones was involved again. His header back across goal saw Joe Dalton fail to get a decisive touch.

Brandon Young was then fouled wide right by Stewart-Titchiner. Mallinson delivering a dangerous free kick into a crowd of bodies but again the Y&E defence stood firm and cleared.

Alex Clark then almost came up with the pass that nearly opened the Yarm defence. Coming forward purposefully from his own half and into Yarm's he then chipped a lovely ball over the top of the visiting defence.

Brandon Young timed his run well to get ahead of the defence but just failed to get on the end of the pass as Roberts came off his line to claim in front of the Park View midfielder.

Right on half time a strong header forward by Wild saw Jones in space win a corner of Clark. Stewart-Titchiner delivered a wicked inswinger that James Hughes claimed really well under lots of pressure.

The referee's whistle went shortly after ending a half where the ball spent more time in the air than on the ground and the only shot on target in the 45 minutes was Siyanbola's missed penalty.

The hopes for a better second half were answered almost immediately on resumption. Dylan Wilkinson playing a ball down the left. Jamie Frizzel got a great flick header on to send Charlie Loveday racing into the box.

Loveday looked to have a couple of chances to pull the trigger but didn't. The ball eventually ending up at Siyanbola's feet. His first time 12-yard left foot effort cannoning into Jack Procter and bouncing away to safety.

Park View won a corner on the right delivered by Mallinson but easily cleared. Ollie Taylor though retrieving the ball well and reversing it left to find Loveday who burst clear and into the box.

As he closed in on goal Roberts came off his line quickly narrowing the angle and then making a great blocking save as Loveday tried to fire the ball past him. Park View were at least trying to get on the front foot.

However, Y&E did finally have a shot at goal on 53 minutes. It came when Clark was adjudged to have fouled Tom Atkinson not far outside the box. Stewart-Titchiner stepped up and looked for the top corner.

But Hughes' wall was well placed and the ball deflected off Brandon Young for a corner that Stewart-Titchiner took and Wilkinson headed well clear to avert any possible danger.

It was only a temporary reprieve for Park View who went behind on 55 minutes. A ball into the box by Jones was headed well clear by Clark and helped on by Gallagher only for Sam Conway to pick up the loose ball as he sprinted forward.

His momentum and speed took him into the Park View box and around Clark. As Conway attempted to get to the byline he went down easily as Clark turned to close him down. There seemed to be minimal contact but it was enough.

The referee well placed had no doubts and immediately pointed to the penalty spot for the second time in the game. It was Josh Larkin that took on the responsibility up for the visitors.

Hughes dived right and Larkin went left with his well drilled shot to give the second placed team a lead that they barely deserved but that they were never going to turn down.

Park View's response to double penalty disappointment was to up their game once again and Loveday in particular in conjunction with Frizzel on the left was looking lively.

It lead to a PV equaliser on 64 minutes. Loveday doing well to dart into the Yarm box before being crowded out with the ball being cleared by Procter. Frizzel was first to the ball and crossed superbly first time from the left.

Mallinson ghosting in at speed from the right got in between defenders and from just inside the six-yard box guided a neat header into the bottom corner past a helpless Roberts.

No more than Park View deserved and they almost went in front two minutes later when provider was so nearly the poacher. Mallinson winning a corner off Jack Dalton and delivering to the front post.

Conway headed it clear but Mallinson retrieved the ball in space before releasing the marauding Brandon Young on the right flank.

Young whipped a great ball across the six-yard box and Frizzel came steaming in at the back post to meet it from point blank range. But he couldn't control the finish or get it on target as he blasted it wide. A great chance.

From the resultant goal kick Clark powered a defensive header up field that Siyanbola controlled well and then fed Brandon Young this time popping up on the left.

He cut inside and from just outside the box had a shot. But the effort lacked power and although on target was an easy save for Roberts. Then Frizzel helped set-up the next chance with a clever quick throw-in.

It found Siyanbola inside the box on the left towards the byline. He did well to twist and turn before he fired in a low cross that Jack Dalton cleared. The ball falling to substitute Niall Armstrong.

He sprinted on to the loose ball but his first time 20-yard effort flew wide of the Yarm goal. Park View definitely on the front foot and looking much the more likely side.

Then Park View were so very close to going in front with what would have been a goal of the season contender had it gone in. Frizzel's intelligent ball down the left picked up by Loveday who under pressure got the ball to Siyanbola.

PV's top scorer fouled as he tried to get into the box. Taylor delivered the free kick to the back post where Jones half cleared. Frizzel picked up the clearance and with a good quick change of feet crossed with his right foot.

Armstrong flung himself acrobatically at the ball just outside the six-yard box. His overhead volley was beautifully and powerfully met but it flew inches over the bar with Roberts well beaten.

Little had been seen of Yarm as an attacking force in the second half but they showed they could be dangerous and were well in the game when they missed a good chance after a quick break from defence.

Atkinson holding the ball up well and then sliding a ball inside the PV box. finding Williams who cut the ball back. Frankie Young making a good interception but his clearance cannoned off Jones.

The ball looping back towards the Park View goal. It came to Conway who with the goal at his mercy could only put a free 8-yard header over the bar from a very good central position.

Once again though Park View pushed forward hard. Loveday and Armstrong on the edge of the box both being thwarted in efforts to break through after Brandon Young created space.

Eventually Siyanbola got the ball and laid it square to Gallagher who came storming on to the pass and from just inside the box rifled a great effort on the run that went just over the bar.

Then on 86 minutes the sucker punch. Wilkinson clearing his lines well and getting the ball up to Frankie Young who was bundled over by substitute Joe Scaife-Wheatley who wasn't pulled up.

He then proceeded to play the ball forward which struck Gallagher on his outstretched arm. Free-kick for handball on the left about 35 yards from goal. Stewart-Titchiner delivered into the centre of the PV box.

Frizzel getting his head to the ball to deflect it way but the unmarked Procter was alert and quickest to the loose ball driving it home with his left foot from 8-yards as the Park View defence didn't close him down well enough.

A bitter pill for Park View to swallow and it proved to be the match winner. PV not giving up and continuing to push forward. Right on the stroke of full time they were awarded a free kick on the right that substitute Harry Laydon took.

He delivered a great ball into the centre of the box that caused a real scramble but was cleared. The ball coming to Brandon Young who crossed it back in but it was too long and too high and Yarm once again survived.

There wasn't even time to take the goal kick as the referee blew for full time to signal jubilant celebrations from the Y&E contingent. Their reaction telling as they knew they'd been second best on the day but had snatched a vital win.

In the end analysis the Yarm defence stood up to their task well. Their knowledge, experience and game management giving them the know-how to get over the line despite only having two real efforts on target.

Park View were left to rue the chances they created and missed. In particular that early penalty that had it been converted would have made for a totally different game and perhaps, perhaps a different result.

Yarm consolidating their second place in the table and going within two points of leaders Redcar Town although they have no played two more games. For Park View it meant them dropping out of the play-off positions.

They need to regroup and go again as they face a tricky away trip to Esh Winning this coming Wednesday night. Esh may be bottom and looking doomed but they have picked up a couple of good results lately.
