Clinical Ten Minutes Kills Off Park View

It is now six games in a row in all competitions since Park View picked up a win. A second 3 - 0 defeat in only four days saw them fail to stop Boldon C.A. from returning to the top of the Division 2 table as PV slipped down to 11th.

Park View made three changes from the side that had gone out of the FA Vase last Saturday at Knaresborough Town. Brandon Young coming in for brother Frankie and Lewis Marshall making his full debut in place of Markus Giefalk.

Giefalk and Frankie Young dropping down to the bench. First choice goalkeeper Davy Carter returned to the side as well after being unavailable for the FA Vase tie replacing Mallie Clayton in goal.

Against a Boldon side who had were unbeaten in all seven competitive games they have played this season PV made a bright start. On 4 minutes having the first effort of the game on goal.

Alex Clark with a header from 10-yards out getting on the end of a Jacob Mallinson right-wing cross. His effort was on target but lacked real power and Dan Gladstone in the Boldon goal caught it comfortably.

Marshall then showed neat footwork on the right before powering in a cross that was too close to Gladstone who held the well-hit and intentioned delivery in good style.

Boldon almost took the lead with their first effort on goal. On 7 minutes a very long throw from Henry Harvey saw Carter come off his line to contest. But Liam Thear got their first and headed over the PV keeper.

The header was on target but Park View skipper Ben Gallagher was covering well and cleared the goal bound ball from virtually on his own line. Then Gallagher at the other end was almost a creator.

His ball from central midfield was well placed and gave Zac Boddy a chance to close in on goal. Boddy entering the 18-yard area but hit his shot straight at Gladstone who saved easily.

Park View continued to get on the front foot and Brandon Young lifted a ball intended for Niall Armstrong. Harvey trying to clear it for Boldon could only divert his header into Armstrong's path.

Spotting Gladstone coming off his line, Armstrong tried a first-time lobbed volley from the edge of the box but it was too high and although beating Gladstone cleared the bar.

From a free-kick on the left some 30 yards from goal Carter came out well to claim the ball cleanly in front of Thear denying the Boldon striker an opportunity to head for goal.

On 29 minutes PV were unlucky not to take the lead with a effort. Carter Bell picking the ball up on the left flank before driving into space. Bell unleashed a left-foot thunderbolt that beat Gladstone but came crashing back off the bar.

However Boldon's response to the near miss was decisive and led them to taking the lead on 32 minutes with a goal Park View should not have conceded. It came from a corner on PV's right.

Charlie Whitfield won it after making a good run and being denied a cross by Reyhan Grimaud's well-timed tackle. Kevin Humble lined up the kick and swung it in. The ball sailing over everyone and hitting the back of the net at the far post.

Carter claimed he was impeded and certainly he seemed rooted to the spot. However PV had defenders in front of him that perhaps could have helped him out and no-one at home at the back post to initiate a clearance.

A real blow for Park View who had to that point been well in the game. Worse was to come as within four minutes the hosts doubled their lead. Thear cleverly winning a free-kick from Mallinson about 22-yards out.

C.A. captain Callum Larmouth stepping up and driving a superbly hit free-kick past the Park View wall and into the bottom corner of the net past a despairing diving Carter's left hand. A double whammy from the home side.

PV's response at first was good. Marshall playing a neat ball inside to Boddy who tried a left-foot effort from fully 25-yards. It was well struck and Gladstone fumbled his attempted save.

However as the ball bounced towards the onrushing Armstrong, Gladstone recovered very quickly and retrieved the loose ball before the Park View striker could pounce.

An important moment for the home side who then effectively killed the game off on 42 minutes with their third goal inside ten minutes. This time Larmouth took advantage of Gallagher loosing possession in midfield.

The Boldon skipper spinning away from Clark before hitting a 22-yard daisy-cutter past Carter into the bottom right-hand corner of the net. The PV keeper unable to get across to the well-drilled effort to make a save.

Understandably the home side were now flying as Park View were reeling and they almost made it four-nil just before the half-time and Larmouth almost had a hat-trick.

Robbie Gateshill was the provider with a lovely ball through the Park View defence for his skipper to run on to. Larmouth shooting across Carter was denied by the keeper who did well to deflect the ball away with his foot.

It was the last action of a first-half that to say Boldon finished superbly in the last thirteen minutes of action would be a huge understatement as they completely took control of the game.

Park View should have been back in the game with a glimmer of hope almost on the restart. A ball from Bell into the box was only half headed clear and fell to Mallinson in the centre of the Boldon box.

Unfortunately Mallinson from a great position could only volley the chance off target failing to bring his side back into the game. From there Boldon looked the more likely to be the next scorers. Thear in particular looking dangerous.

He was leading the line well and setting up the play deep in Park View's half. Setting up both Larmouth and Harvey for shots from outside the box that were both not far away from troubling Carter.

Then Thear did even better to split the Park View defence with a clever inside ball to Larmouth who was through on goal one-on-one with Carter. But the Park View skipper did well to stand his ground and make a great blocking save.

Whitfield and Harvey then combined well on the right to win a corner off Grimaud. Once again Humble's in-swinger caused problems and in a crowded six-yard box Frizzel made a great clearing header.

Boldon just about on the hour mark really should have scored what would have been a great goal. Whitfield started the move down the left before finding Gateshill inside.

The midfielder exchanged passes with Thear that got him in on goal about ten yards out. But with the goal at his mercy Gateshill failed to finish the great move as he shot wide of the target.

Park View made three substitutions. Frankie Young, Bobby Gough and Will Dryden coming on for Armstrong, Marshall and Gallagher. Clark taking over the captain's armband from Gallagher. For Dryden it was first-team debut minutes.

Park View despite being three goals down were still showing plenty of committed determination and not lying down. Grimaud bursting down the right was upended by Chris Bell who was booked for his trouble.

Mallinson whipped in a dangerous free-kick that Clark and Frizzel looked to get on the end of but were denied by an excellent header out for a corner by Boldon substitute Mason Burton. The corner coming to nothing for Park View.

At the other end it was Frizzel who entered the referee's notebook after he gave the ball away to Larmouth and then as he tried to recover he tripped Luke Pace on the edge of the box who Larmouth had found with a neat pass.

Larmouth not giving Park View further misery though as he blasted the free-kick from just outside the area into the well-formed and well-placed Park View wall that did it's job well.

Kieran Woods then came on for Park View for Brandon Young before once again Boldon went close. This time it came from a well worked short corner that was played to Pace just outside the box who dinked the ball to the back post.

Burton came hurtling in but was denied a goal on his Boldon debut. Carter making a really good point-blank save to keep Burton's header out. Then another nice C.A. move saw Carter brought into action again.

Gateshill finding Larmouth inside who laid it off to Max Cowburn about 20-yards out. His fierce on-target right-footer being turned over the bar by the PV keeper. Cowburn took the corner but again Carter was alert and punched clear.

Park View almost grabbed a consolation goal late on. Good play by Woods saw him release Mallinson who ran at the heart of the Boldon defence drawing them out before slipping a great ball into Boddy.

The hard-working Park View striker that had kept going all night was inside the box in the inside left channel and struck a great cross shot past Gladstone only to see the ball rebound back off the inside of the post.

The last action of a game that ultimately was decided in that late ten-minute period in the first-half. There was though no denying that over the 90 minutes Boldon deserved their win that took them back to the top of the league.

For Park View it was another tough game and one where they were ultimately second best. Next up is Jarrow FC at home on Saturday. Jarrow in superb form at the moment will be a hard challenge for PV who are in need of a result soon.
