Someone once said 'football's a funny old game.' They were not wrong as so often it throws up games and moments that almost defy description. This was one of those occassions.

Park View travelled to the historic Tow Law ground on Ironworks Road and left with a superbly snatched away victory that perhaps few saw coming. The Lawyers fourth in the table and with a experienced solid Northern League squad.

PV sticking as always to their principles and programme they believe in and trust. A programme that has served them well in their Northern League life so far and one that often frustrates but also often delights.

Both sides had picked up good wins against the bottom two in the division last time out. Tow Law 2 - 0 at Prudhoe the previous week and Park View 3 - 2 over Durham United in midweek at home. Both looking to build on those results.

For Park View there was one enforced change to their starting XI following the win over Durham. Brandon Young being out injured and being replaced by striker Niall Armstrong.

A bold move from the PV Management Team to go to a more attacking line-up away from home against a side sitting in the play-off positions. Ultimately it proved the right decision and they were well rewarded for their bravery.

The game started at a high pace and in truth for the full 90 minutes it never let up with chances galore at both ends of the pitch. The Lawyers as many expected starting the stronger.

From a long kick from keeper Luke Teare the home side had the first strike at goal. Alex Clark heading the ball out of his own box. The ball fell to Richie Slaughter who hit a crisp 20-yard half volley that flew just wide of the post.

Tow Law had already shown that they were trying to work the flanks with Evann Jardine and Callum Guy looking lively and top scorer Dean Thexton leading the line with power linking up play. But the home side were rocked on 4 minutes.

Park View taking the lead with their first meaningful attack. Jamie Frizzel finding Armstrong with a good ball from the back. Armstrong's control was good and his through ball even better sending Charlie Loveday racing through.

Loveday looked as if he had a great chance to score as Teare came off his line to cut down the angle. But Loveday had other ideas. Spotting Bobby Gough unmarked at the back post he squared the ball to Gough who slotted it home.

A lovely move and one that showed the pace and quality of the young Park View attack as 17-year-old Gough grabbed his first goal at this senior level and gave his side a platform to build from.

The Lawyers responded with Jardine winning a corner off Jacob Mallinson on their right. Reece Brown delivered a dangerous in-swinger that eventually fell to Kurt Matthews inside the six-yard box.

Matthews hit a sweet close-range left foot volley but he was denied an equaliser by Davy Carter in the Park View goal who tipped the ball over the bar in spectacular fashion.

It lead to another dangerous Brown corner but the Park View defence held firm and although there were lots of bodies in the box they managed to clear their lines well.

Thexton then released Brown inside the box with a neat first-time flick but his forward partner lashed the ball well over the bar from about 16-yards out and perhaps should have done better.

A great move from Tow Law almost brought them level. A brilliant run down the left flank by Brown saw him weave past Gough and Reyhan Grimaud and then fimd Guy inside. Guy playing the ball forward to Thexton just inside the PV box.

Thexton laid the ball neatly back into his skipper Harry Laviolette who from 20-yards crashed a fierce right-foot shot past Carter but also just past the keeper's left hand post.

On 18 minutes the home side went even closer. Loveday fouling Laviolette centrally about 22-yards out. Brown stepped up and cracked a great left-foot effort over the wall that Carter at full stretch did well to turn over the crossbar.

It was all Tow Law pressure with Park View finding it difficult to break out but they were hanging on to that precious lead. Matthews pinching a ball off Gough to send Brown away on the left.

Brown's cross was aimed towards the waiting Thexton but Markus Giefalk did well to get to the ball first and head out for a corner. Brown the deliver and once again Park View cleared well.

A counter attack eventually from PV saw Teare being brought into action. Mallinson doing well in midfield to find Loveday who in turn switched the ball right to Gough in space.

Gough trying a low shot from outside the box that saw Teare tested as he dived to his left at his near post to make a smart stop before Tow Law resumed their search for an equaliser.

Guy testing Carter next from just outside the box when he turned and spun away from Giefalk well before hitting s goal bound left-footer that Carter caught above his head cleanly.

Mallinson was trying to drive Park View forward and was unlucky with a long-range effort just after the half hour mark. Moving into space before getting his effort on target only to see Teare manage unconvincingly to push it over the bar.

Carter then conceded a free-kick in a very dangerous position as the Assistant flagged to indicate he had carried the ball outside of the box before clearing it. The Lawyers free-kick right on the edge of the box and centrally positioned.

Thexton took the kick and drove it past the well-positioned wall that did it's job as although the ball went past then it also fizzed wide of the right-hand post as well.

On 36 minutes the home side missed a glorious opportunity to draw level. Guy playing a delightful pass through the Park View defence that saw Liam Goldsborough bursting into the box with no-one in front of him.

But with his teammates queueing up for a decisive ball to be pulled across the box Goldsborough went for glory but could only smash his angled drive into the side-netting wasting the golden chance.

Gough then conceded another free-kick to the Lawyers not far outside the box. This time Brown took it but the wall did it's job deflecting his effort wide of the target for a corner. Mallinson heading Brown's corner clear in fine style.

Then Tow Law won another corner delivered by Brown into the middle of the box. Laviolette got up well to get a downward header on target that went past the diving Carter but Nathan Conroy was there to clear the ball off the line.

At the other end Park View had a chance they failed to make count. A free-kick some 25-yards from goal was lined up by Conroy who looked as if he was going to shoot but instead played a clever reverse ball to release Ben Gallagher.

Gallagher making progress into the box and looked to have a great shooting chance but he decided to square the ball to Mallinson who was crowded out before he could get a meaning full effort off.

Back came Tow Law and everyone connected with Park View held their breath when a dangerous ball was played into the box. Clark and Thexton competing for the ball and Thexton going down heavily under the challenge from Clark.

The home side demanding a penalty kick and on another day's a coming together as was seen could well have resulted in a spot-kick. But the referee thought otherwise and waved away the vociferous home appeals.

The half ended with a final Tow Law effort on goal. Guy involved with a ball in that was cleared by Park View but straight to Matthews who hit a fierce left-foot volley from 20-yards out.

But it was straight at Carter who held it comfortably to maintain Park View's slender lead at the break and possibly left Tow Law scratching their heads at how they were not level.

The home side were forced into a change at half-time with Laviolette coming off and Bradley Burns coming on. Thexton taken over the captaincy.

The pattern of the second half picked up where the first had left off with Tow Law immediately on the attack and the overlapping Matthews putting in a good cross that Gallagher cleared for a corner that came to nothing.

Burns' first involvement was to find Jardine wide right who tried a shot from the angle of the box which tested Carter who parried the ball up imto the air and collected the ball as it dropped down.

Next chance fell when Matthews in the inside left challenge crossed into the PV box almost finding the unmarked Burns 10-yards out but Burns made a poor contact and the ball drifted wide.

On 58 minutes a rare Park View counter attack should have seen them go two in-front. Gallagher playing a first time ball through the middle that saw Loveday's pace take him away from the defenders and through on goal 1-on-1.

But Loveday was denied by Teare who came off his line smartly to block Loveday's effort from just inside the box. The ball rebounded to Conroy on the follow-up but his effort was blocked by Goldsborough.

Conroy was replaced for Park View minutes later with 16-year-old Kieran Woods coming on to take his place upfront before on 64 minutes Tow Law came the closest they had to an equaliser.

Guy playing a good ball down the right to find Brown who switched the ball to his left foot before curling in a great cross. Thexton was up in the area about 10-yards from goal and met the ball well with his head directing it goal wards.

But unfortunately for Thexton and his side although the ball beat Carter it cannoned off the bar and went just over the top. Was it going to be one of those days for Tow Law?

Former Park View Academy student Ryan Wright was on from the bench and created the next great chance that Tow Law failed to take. Wright's pace on the left took him past Grimaud and he crossed on the run.

Burns bursting into the box was well in front of the Park View defenders but with the goal at his mercy he put his side-foot volley inches wide of the right-hand post. Tow Law squandering yet another opportunity.

The game was starting to open out a little and a good move from Park View showed they still carried a threat. Gallagher driving forward before finding Loveday midway in the home half. He played the ball wide left to Armstrong.

The striker cut into the box heading towards goal but was denied a shooting chance by Goldsborough who came across and made a great blocking challenge.

With twenty minutes to go it was a game still in the balance and PV were indebted to keeper Carter for keeping them ahead. Thexton breaking into the box before playing a 1-2 with Wright.

It put him on goal and he shot wide of Carter towards the bottom corner. But the PV stopper dived superbly to his left to palm what looked like a certain equaliser.

Thexton was involved again moments later when Gallagher fouled him just outside the box. He got up to take the kick but his effort merely smashed into the wall and bounced away to safety.

The crucial moment in the game arrived on 76 mins and it was a second goal for Park View. At first it looked as if they had been denied a penalty. Armstrong cutting inside was fouled by Goldsborough just outside the box.

He stayed on his feet though and Goldsborough brought him down inside the box. But PV's penalty claims were denied as the referee adjudged the first foul to be the one penalised.

Mallinson played it short and square to Gallagher who smashed a shot at goal which was blocked. The ball rebounded to Armstrong who's first effort was also blocked but he recovered quickly and made no mistake with his second effort.

He drove the ball home from close range to register his fourth league goal of the season and with 14 minutes remaining doubled the Park View lead. A goal that seemed to take the sting finally out of Tow Law.

Within a couple of minutes Loveday almost made it three. Good set-up play by Woods gave him space and he clipped an on target 12-yard left footer that Teare had to get down smartly too to save.

Then it was Armstrong with the set-up play to put Loveday into the box and the inside left channel. This time the speedy forward's effort beat Teare's dive but it also beat the left-hand post going just wide.

Loveday was stretching the Lawyers defence but couldn't find a finishing argument to nail all three points. A clearance from Frizzel giving him another sighting of goal just inside the box but Teare made a good diving tip around.

Mallinson played the corner short to Gough who tried a curler from just outside the angle of the 18-yard box and was not far away as it drifted just wide of Tow Law's right-hand post.

It was Tow Law that were now restricted to sporadic attacks as PV moved up a gear. Matthews trying his luck with a 25-yard rocket that was not far from the target but was just wide and high.

Mallinson then made another great from midfield before finding Frizzel on the left. He turned the ball inside to Giefalk who switched the play well to find Gallagher cutting in from the right.

The Park View skipper got inside the box and from about 14-yards shot wide of the diving Teare's right-hand but saw his effort fizz wide of the intended target.

Park View though did strike again as the game entered injury time. It was a lovely move and a great finish. Great work by Woods, Mallinson and Loveday to open up the Tow Law defence saw Loveday find Gough in acres of space.

The youngster showing real composure did not shoot first time but jinked inside putting Teare on his backside before coolly shooting home with his left foot to complete a great personal performance and seal all three points for his side.

Make no mistake about it this was a game where in the words of opposition manager Matty Pattison, Park View "did a real job on us and deserved their win for the way they played."

There is no doubting that Park View were under considerable pressure from the off but their commitment to each other and the superb togetherness they showed throughout the 90 minutes was clearly evident.

Their defending starting from the front where the forwards continually harried the opposition. The tireless running and prompting of the midfield who also put themselves in good areas to help their defence.

In defence the three centre backs were also excellent continuingly winning crucial headers, tackles and blocks and the goalkeeper earning his clean sheet with a very good all-round performance.

What Park View showed against a strong well-organised experienced outfit is that they can match anyone on their day and go toe-to-toe at all times. Plus their clinical finishing on the day taught their hosts a lesson or two.
